Accomplishment:
I participated in the Runner's World Running Streak from Thanksgiving 2018 - New Years Day 2019 with my son. The streak was to run one mile per day. I've run for over 35 years, but never ran every single day. I truly enjoyed it and will continue this into 2019! Here are a few things that changed: I looked forward to doing it daily, it only took between 9 - 11 minutes, so there was no excuse not to do it. I got in shape and am able to run easier than when I wasn't running every day. My 20 year old son and I did it together, he completed it too!

This is the first time I've cooked and enjoyed swiss chard, okra, and tomatillos. As an added bonus, I am seeing some weight loss by eating healthier.

I was happy to complete the GOLD medal! I loved the challenges and looked forward to achieving a new goal each day, including the weekends. On one challenge, I cleaned up an area around my home (which is out in the beautiful countryside surrounding our state's capital). There was a hamper of clean linens that my son had brought back from college. As I was sorting through the nicely-folded towels and sheets, I was startled to see a little twitchy nose, and then 2 more... I'd discovered a nest of 3 baby mice snuggled into the nice, warm linens...I was (proudly) restrained and "enlisted" my husband's aid in dispatching the family to the far-away, outdoors. Needless to say, all of the linens have been disposed of - I could NOT use "the mouse-house" linens in my home! With that experience alone, I am THRILLED that I took the challenge and was challenged each day to better myself and my surroundings. I am looking forward to our next challenge, too!

Looking back, much was accomplished, and I'm proud of myself, and I thank God for giving me the strength to do them.

I have lost 194 lbs. I started going to Weight Watchers and then EAP offered Zumba classes at work so I joined those. THey were so much fun they did not feel like exercise at all. (Well, ok maybe a little LOL) Then joined a gym. After I lost most of the weight the Olympic Experience came out and I love it. It reminds me what my goals are and I am pretty sure I have done every month since the begining. It helps me stay on track and stay fit. In March it will be a year since I met my weight loss goal and the Olympic Experience and Zumba classes at work is a big part of what helps me stay at my goal weight. Three months ago my blood sugars were in the diabetic range, my cholestrol and triglycerides were too high. I eat healthy and have never been a soda drinker but...I wasn't exercising. Over the winter I got a used treadmill and started walking. I could only do a few minutes at a time but eventually increased to 30 minutes. Not a marathon but a big success for me. This week when I went for a follow up with my doctor the test results showed that my sugars are back in the normal range, my cholestrol is 169, and trigylcerides 83! I've lost about 20 pounds. I started with a plan of 2 weeks no carbs and very limited natural sugars (Stevia in the raw, honey, or agave) today is day 14 and I am sooooo proud of myself! I stuck with it and even managed to pack healthly no-carb meals while being on the road for my job. A little challenging but managable. My clothes are so lose that I had to move buttons over and take seams in. I was even able to pull out some of my clothes from the back of the closet...you know, the ones you save in hopes of getting into them "someday". And it sure feels great to be able to move without having lots of pain!
